This Sunday - His People

This week we continue our new series “In Christ” and we are going to recapture the thrill of receiving the most important news in the world. Even more staggering, this news is going to effect the whole of the cosmos.

Paul’s letter to the Ephesians has shown us some wonderful realities about ourselves, our church and God's eternal plans. These realities are so wonderful that we can find them hard to believe. Given how hard it is to take it all in, our passage contains a prayer that we might have strength to grasp these truths deeply in our hearts.

“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:17-19

This week’s service will also have Holy Communion and children’s groups will continue. Refreshments will be served both before and after the service.

This Week - Small Group

This week (and for the next few weeks) we are going to continue to explore what it means to be the church. Jesus is, of course, the one who builds His church and the one who leads His church. At the start of the book of Revelation John is given a vision of just that - Jesus standing in the centre of His church, speaking to His church. John is then told to write down Jesus’ encouragements and commands.

Over the next few weeks, we are going to look at what Jesus has to say to His church. We are going to ask how Jesus’ instruction can help us to be the church Jesus longs for us to be.

This Saturday

We have a glorious Saviour who loves us and cares for us so much - yet so many people have not had the chance to hear of him. The TDEF Autumn event will feature encouraging stories of how God is at work.

For many years Rob Fowler has been reaching people in some of the most deprived estates around Plymouth. Over 60 people have been baptised in the last three years. Our very own Natalie Gavan has been seeing people come to faith in Jesus through her work amongst those in poverty. Rob and Natalie will encourage us to see how we can be a part of God’s mission to change lives.

Worship will be led by worship band members from churches across Cornwall. Refreshments will be served from 7pm giving a chance to talk and share fellowship with others.

Truro Leadership team update - New website

On Monday 18th the leadership team met again where we discussed the life of the church and plan for the term ahead. We are excited to share that we have been working on a new website, which is now up and running. Please take a look christchurchtruro.org.uk We hope it will become a great way to promote our church and to help people discover more about who we are and what we do. We also discussed ways to develop and structure the pastoral care within our church family.

A huge thank you to all those involved who have made this website possible.

Two weeks to go!

As part of the Dockyard vision to create ‘safe spaces to rebuild in tough times’ the team are opening their new lounge space on 16th October. Erica writes, “Thank you for offers of time and the donations of furniture, toys and clothes for The Dockyard Lounge Cafe. We have also raised £1300 towards our £2000 target. If you are interested in finding out more about volunteer opportunities, there will be an information morning on Monday 2nd October at Hendra Hall from 10:30-12:00. We are still looking for volunteers for Monday afternoons from 12-3 as well as people to make soup and cakes on a monthly basis. We also need donations of books, rugs and good quality toddler toys. Please see our website for more information Get involved (thedockyardcollective.org)”

Creation Care Award

The Diocese of Truro’s vision for Creation Care invites people to Cherish Creation, Cut Carbon and Speak Up. It is committed to the Church of England’s target of achieving Net Zero carbon emissions in 2030.

At Kea we are committed to supporting this and on the 16th September St Kea PCC were awarded a Bronze A Rocha award from Ben Lillie (Diocesan Creation Care Officer) in a ceremony at the Cathedral.

Next Saturday - Big Quiz Night

We are thrilled to be taking part in Tearfund’s Big Quiz Night on Saturday 7 October at Kea Church. The quiz will start promptly at 7:30pm so don’t be late.

It’s exciting to gather people together again for this fun and innovative quiz which promises to be a great fun and a bit of a challenge. Being part of Tearfund’s Big Quiz Night also means we can do our part in helping communities and churches worldwide end extreme poverty and injustice.

This year our Big Quiz will be live so we will be joining hundreds of churches across the UK all taking part in the ultimate quiz night. Please invite your friends and family and form a team. We recommend 4 - 6 members in a team, but we’re flexible.  It’s a good idea to mix up the age groups if you can, to ensure a good range of knowledge in each team.

Do bring you own drinks, glasses and nibbles. Tea, coffee, squash and cake will be available. (Please note we will not be serving pasties this year)

Please pay what you think it’s worth or what you can afford. Every pound we raise at our Big Quiz Night will empower people to lift themselves out of poverty and reach their God-given potential. Tearfund is a Christian charity that partners with churches in more than 50 of the world’s poorest countries. They tackle poverty through sustainable development, responding to disasters and challenging injustice. They believe an end to extreme poverty is possible. Tearfund is also a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and church family that we can join together in praying for:

1. Let us pray for St Clement Church as they seek to work together with St Allen. Please pray for wisdom and guidance as they start to make plans for this.

2. Father God we are so thankful for the work of Mercy Rescue Trust. We thank you for the care all the children receive either at the centre or with their foster families. We particularly pray for baby Dennis who has recently come out of hospital and is still at risk and for baby Adrian who was born prematurely. We also pray for the finances and the right people to fix the staff accommodation which is sinking. Lastly let us pray for the 6 children going into end secondary school exams.

3. Finally, Let us pray for our for our creation. Creator God, You show us what love is through the beauty of the earth and the gift of your Son. For the love of…
animal and plant, mountain and forest, sea and city, friend and family, those who live far from us and those yet to be born. Move us to live more simply, to protect the earth and to speak up for those in need.
