This Sunday - Approved Teachers

In Paul’s first letter to Timothy he writes ‘watch your life and doctrine closely’. Sadly, over the centuries and today, we have seen leadership failures and false teaching damage Jesus’ church. This week, as we contine in Paul’s second letter to Timothy, we will see what the church most needs.

‘Approved Teachers’ will be those who rightly handle the truth of God’s word, who are gentle and avoid unnecessary arguments., but also respond rightly to false teaching. How can we encourage our leaders to act as God desires? How do we decide who to listen to?

Our Sunday Clubs and Youth will be running as normal. The sermon will be livestreamed and made available on our website later. Refreshments will be served before and after the service and prayer ministry will be available.

Next Sunday - Harvest

On Sunday 9th October, we will have an All Age service to celebrate Harvest. In the service we will be giving thanks to God for His provision, bringing donations for Truro Foodbank, highlighting Operation Christmas Child and thinking about how to care for His creation and act with justice towards those threatened by Climate Change (as a church and as church members).

After the service there will be an opportunity to continue thinking about this in a workshop. We will also have a bring and share lunch in the church building, so please do stay to join us. More details to follow on each of these.

Women’s Breakfast - Saturday 15th October

We will be welcoming women from across Trinity Church Truro and it will be a great opportunity to meet our sisters in Christ from across the city.

Everything we do is funded by you

We are deeply grateful for the regular giving support of our church family, even as the cost of living rises. We recognise that the coming months may be uncomfortable financially for many. 

Generally, our planned regular giving has not varied much over the years as people come and go or adjust what they can afford to give, but it has started to decline in a more pronounced way than usual. We have responded quickly by pausing all non-essential discretionary expenditure and prioritising paying for our staff, clergy, heating and lighting our buildings and ministries such as Christians Against Poverty that are funded from our central pot.

To keep you in the loop, here’s a snapshot of our income and expenditure in August and for the first eight months of this year:

At this stage – and only if you are in a position to do so – we want to ask whether you might consider increasing your giving a little? Overall, we need giving to increase by 10 per cent to get back on track - but every little helps. And if you regard us as your church in Truro and don’t yet give regularly, we’d be so grateful if you’d consider partnering with us by signing up to the Parish Giving Scheme.

Gardening Morning - this Saturday 1st October, 9am-12 noon

The gardening team would love some extra help as they tackle autumn jobs. Everyone welcome, no experience needed. Bring along pruning equipment if you have any and wear sturdy shoes.

Citizens Advice Cornwall

Citizens Advice Cornwall has produced an Autumn Newsletter which contains important information about coping with the cost of living and rising energy bills.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and family that we can join together in praying for:

1. Please pray for St Allen that God would provide the right person to become their new Focal Minister.

2. Give thanks for Compassion UK. We have helped fund a Compassion project based at St Paul’s Cathedral in Embu in Kenya. Pray that funding needed by this project will be raised so they can continue to do this incredible work.

3. Pray for all those struggling financially. As winter draws in we are reminded of how cold it can be. Pray for support for those who are going to find it hard to stay warm over the coming months.
