St Kea Church

Who is this?

We live in a world that is very troubled, and we may particularly feel this as we look at the news recently. Soon it will be Remembrance Day – many will stop to pay their respects, but we will also be reminded of the horror of war and the pain of losing loved ones.

This week, as we continue our series ‘The King and His Kingdom’ Jesus’ disciples come close to death and also meet a man who has been robbed of life. Yet Jesus displays the most remarkable power in the face of all this darkness. This is news of deep joy and wonderful hope. Yet, often we struggle to believe it. Like the disciples, we can lack faith.

So why not join us this week, ready to be amazed by Jesus and prepared to be invited once again to follow him?

This Sunday we will be sharing bread and wine at the Lord’s Supper. Refreshments will be served before and after the service. A livestream will be broadcast, there will be be groups for children and young people and prayer ministry available after the service.

Engage

Engage is breaking for half term this week but will start again next week where we continue thinking about Jesus’ priorities.

Light Party - Tomorrow

There is still time to sign up for the Light Party at Kea Church tomorrow evening. There will be lots of fun activities to take part in, including games, crafts, food, music and a short talk from the Bible.

Living with Loss Service

This Sunday afternoon at 3pm there will be a service for those wishing to remember loved ones. If you would like to add a name to the list to be read out please contact office@stkea.org.uk. Please do also think of those in the local community who might like to attend this service and/or submit a name to be read out.

Left To Their Own Devices

On Tuesday 12 November, we will be running a video-based session from Care for the Family to help parents address the challenges of the online world that our children inhabit. This will be a great chance to come along explore the impact of the digital world on our children and discuss issues such as screen time, social media alongside the more serious issues of online bullying, grooming and pornography. We’ll be based at St Kea from 7.00-8.30pm during the regular Tuesday Night Youth group session – younger siblings are welcome to attend youth group that evening to allow parents to attend if needed.

Advent Series Books to Order

For every Sunday during Advent, we will using a devotion book to shape our teaching each week. One True Gift is a short book by Tim Chester to guide readers through the days of Advent. Each day, it provides a verse from Philippians to read, a thought to reflect on, and a prayer we might like to pray.

If you would like to purchase one of these books, they can be ordered through the church office for £7 (saving postage costs).

To order your copy, click on the image above. These will then be available to collect at church on Sunday 1st December as we start our Advent series together.

Wreath Making - 30th November

Our first Christmas event is just around the corner! This popular wreath-making evening is perfect for bringing friends to as we begin our Christmas celebrations. It promises to be a relaxed and enjoyable event which includes a full wreath-making demonstration, time to make your own wreath, and a short interview with a Christian about what Christmas means to them. Mulled wine and nibbles will be served, and materials to make the wreaths will be provided.

Tickets are £18 each or two for £30. Numbers are limited, so do book early to secure places for you and your friends. Those attending should bring secateurs to work with. Click on the image above to book your place.

Please see below a list of greenery which is needed for the event. If you are able to offer any do get in touch with Catharine Handford.

Christmas Choir

This year we will once again be forming an informal choir to help lead the singing at our Christmas Carol Service on Sunday 22nd December at 6.30pm.

So, if you enjoy singing and would like to be part of this group please come and join rehearsals in church at 7pm on the following Thursdays: 14th and 28th November and 5th & 12th December. No experience is needed. You do not need to be able to read music to be able to take part.

Operation Christmas Child

It’s not too late to take part in Operation Christmas Child this year - Here’s how:

Pack a shoebox of gifts for a child and bring it to church during National Collection Week (10-17 November). To find out what can and can’t be included in the box, click on the image above.

Last year the youth group were able to create an additional 30+ boxes from your generous donations so if you are out shopping we’d be grateful if you could pop an extra bar of soap, packet of pens, pair of gloves etc in your shopping basket and bring them into church. There’s a festively-wrapped box at the back of church for donations. We are particularly keen to create boxes for boys aged 10-14 this year.

New for this year – we will be holding a ‘community packing party’ on Saturday 16th November 11-12.30. If you would be able to help with welcoming and serving refreshments at this, please contact Jenie Macindoe (details can be found on Churchsuite).

CAP & Lanterns Christmas Appeal

Natalie Gavan writes: we are so excited to launch our CAP and Lanterns Christmas Appeal (Click on the above image to watch a short video from our CAP manager Natalie).

For over 15 years you have been showing God's love in action by donating to our appeal. As you can imagine for many individuals and families Christmas can feel overwhelming.

We shared on CAP Sunday the impact that debt and low income has on families and individuals, particularly in the way it affects mental health. So with your help and generosity, we want to bring some much needed joy this Christmas! Take a look at a quote from a family you previously supported.

‘Last year I was hugely blessed after receiving Christmas goodies and a voucher. It really helped with costs for food and presents for the kids and I was enormously blessed by it. The look on my children’s faces was priceless when I was able to choose gifts for them, through the vouchers I received. It is just such a joy especially when I was scraping pennies together in the last few weeks before christmas.’

Please would you consider giving: Supermarket Voucher, Argos Voucher, Financial Donation

Please hand in donations to the Kea Church office or the dedicated Office Box at the back of Church. Please mark donations CAP/Lanterns Christmas Appeal. Your wonderful donations will also Christmas Party.

The closing date for our Christmas appeal is 3rd December to make sure everything is ready to distribute.

For further information contact Natalie Gavan 07919506203 or the church office.

On behalf of every person you bless this Christmas, we want to say a massive THANK YOU!

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and church family that we can join in praying for:

1. Father God we pray for the Light Party which is happening in our church this week. We pray that the children attending, maybe for the first time, will see You as the light of the world. We thank you for the volunteers/youth who will be running the event and we pray they will shine your light into the event.

2. Thank you God for the opportunity that Sunday club have to support Steve through Compassion UK. We ask you God to fill him and his family with hope and hopefulness for the future by your Holy Spirit. We also pray for the work of Compassion across the world.

3. This week we pray for Christ Church. As they move forward with their plans to move to a different building with Dockyard and CAP in Truro we pray that this will be straightforward. We pray that people will be willing to get involved in making the alterations to the building once the keys have been obtained.
