This Sunday - 2 Timothy series continues

Join us this Sunday as we turn back to Paul’s last letter. We’ll continue to see what valuing and guarding the gospel looks like as Paul warns Timothy about false teaching. We are also very excited to have Jedidah visiting us from Kenya to talk about Mercy Rescue Trust (a charity we support).

Sunday Club and Sunday Youth will be running as normal and refreshments will be served before and after the service. We regret to inform you that it won’t be possible to provide a livestream this Sunday but this will return on the 30th October, God willing.

St Kea fellowship evening - tonight (19th)

Please do join us tonight for refreshements and dessert/cake from 7pm and then prayer and praise from 7.30pm. We will offering different ways to pray as we seek to commit the life of our church family, and wider concerns, to our gracious heavenly father. You can still sign up below, which will help us to cater.

We will be providing a live stream for those unable to join us in person. You can find this on a our Youtube channel.

Youth update

It’s been great to have Sam Payne join the team this term as a part-time youth worker. Sam, his wife Erica and daughter are part of our church family at Christchurch Truro and Sam is at St Kea during the week helping us to run our clubs. We are grateful to God for the young people who are coming each week, we have a wonderful group of regulars. A highlight from this half of term was the Beacons on the Beach event at Porthtowan where young people and parents gathered for prayer, praise and fellowship.

Everything we do is funded by you

We are really grateful for the regular giving support of our church family, even as the cost of living rises and there are so many calls on our money at this time of year. Our planned regular giving has continued to decline over the past month. In fact, just in the last two months it has fallen by the equivalent of more than £8,000 a year. As you know, we’ve already frozen all new non-essential spending so as to prioritise looking after our staff, our clergy, heating and lighting our buildings, and supporting vital ministries funded from our central pot, such as Christians Against Poverty.

Last month we said we’d keep you updated about our finances, so here’s the latest snapshot of our income and expenditure as at the end of September:

If you are in a position to help us, might you ever be able to increase your giving a little? We need our overall giving to rise by almost 15 per cent to get us back into credit - but every little really does help and we really do understand that times are tough. Also, if you’ve recently started to worship at St Kea and regard it as ‘your’ church in Truro and haven’t got around to partnering with us financially, we’d love it if you could spare ten minutes and sign up to the easy-to-use Parish Giving Scheme.

Funeral for Malcolm Dunford

Malcolm Dunford, aged 89, passed away peacefully at home on October 4th. He had been a member of Kea Church since 1979 and particularly loved the services at Old Kea when he was able to attend them. All are welcome to attend the funeral at Truro Crematorium on 24 October at 12.30.pm

At our Harvest service we encouraged people to complete an anonymous Environmental Lifestyle Review. We are very grateful to Jonathan Larkin for organising and processing these. Here are the results:

1. 10% of responders had completed a personal carbon footprint audit. Anyone else who would like to do one can use this link https://www.climatestewards.org/offset/

2. A high 90% of responders had made changes to their diet to be healthier and more sustainable

3. 20% of responders say their savings/pensions are invested ethically. If you want to consider this further you could look here: https://good-with-money.com/category/good-lists/

4. Resources people have found helpful include towards living an environmentally friendly lifestyle include grandchildren, public media, and publications from the organisations such as the National Trust.

5. Things the church family have done to care for creation include leaving part of the garden un-mowed, use of bicycles, reducing their use of single use plastics.

6. Actions people are planning to take include installing a pond in the garden, sourcing groceries more responsibly, improving home insulation.

At the Harvest service we also mentioned Litter picking - Meet at Kea school at 9:30 am on Saturday 29th October. It would be good if people can bring their own appropriate gloves if they have them.

Dockyard evening - 11th November

Sam and Erica Payne from Christ Church are launching a new initiative called The Dockyard Collective - creating safe spaces for people to rebuild in tough times. They are hosting a evening on the 11th November to raise money for a small pilot project in Truro this autumn. The night will be a celebration of Cornwall's finest with a five course tasting menu, Cornish music, and a Cornish Christmas market. Kea Kreftow Craft Group

Weekly Prayer Points

This week’s prayer points:

1. Please pray for the outreach opportunities that come with Halloween, both at organised events and in engaging with neighbours.

2. Please pray for St John’s, Truro, as Will, Naomi and family settle in. There have been early encouragements at the licencing and on the first two Sundays to give thanks for. Please pray for them as they get to know people, build relationships and see what God is already doing at St John’s.

3. Please pray for the work of Barnabus Fund as they encourage prayer, advocacy and send financial support to projects which help Christians where they suffer discrimination, oppression and persecution as a consequence of their faith. Suffering Church Action and Awareness Week starts on the 30th October.
