This Week - Giving SundaySome of us like sheds. It is a strange thing I know. Many people don’t understand the obsession, but some of us are addicted. It might be a particular thing about living in Cornwall, although I suspect not. It might be a British thing, but I suspect it is an international condition. Small out buildings, little store cupboards, plastic outdoor boxes, wooded sheds and even large barns. And what we do with our sheds is we store stuff in them. We store the stuff we use and we store the stuff we need - but mostly we store stuff that we don’t want to throw away, stuff that might come in handy some day. Some of us have avoided this ‘affliction’ but many of us have not. Of course we know that life is about much more than stuff and sheds to keep our stuff in. We value people and relationships, community and service. We love serving God and we care for one another. We know Jesus is coming again and we know we can’t take it with us when we go. But somehow, for some of us, our stuff seems to have a strange hold on us. So this week we are going to think about giving stuff away. We are going to think about giving to others, to the mission of God, to the work of our church and to other churches. We are going to reflect on if we really need to build a bigger shed. It is going to be a really encouraging week. So join us this Sunday if you can. It might just change your life. Refreshments will be served before and after the service and children’s groups will run as usual.
