This Sunday - Wisdom in Speech

This week, our series looking at wisdom continues. We all are involved in working, for some of us that is in employment, for others in retirement, for some work is in the home or with family, for others it is in looking for work or in education. Every week in, one way or another, everyone has work to do. But how should we think about work, our attitude and efforts? What does God think of work and what about when we find work hard? And what about play as well? Proverbs has lots of useful wisdom about work, so this week we are diving in.

This week, our Sunday Club series also continues as we think about Jesus the King and His Kingdom.

There will be refreshments before and after the service, so do catch up with folk as well as get to know others more. Prayer is always available after the service, do ask other church members or speak to the service leader.

Next Sunday, we will be gathering together as all ages for an end of half-term All-Age Special.

No EQUIP Groups This Week

Most groups are not meeting this week as it is School half-term. EQUIP groups return next week.

Bringing Evangelicals Together

In 35 other dioceses there are fellowships of evangelicals which aim to provide mutual encouragement and a place for dialogue amongst evangelicals in the Church of England. Although there may have been a Truro Diocesan Evangelical Fellowship (TDEF) in the past, this had lapsed.

In September 2021 a small group met to relaunch this and planned for a launch event of worship prayer and information. This is planned for Saturday 25th February, 7pm at Holy Trinity St Austell. It is for all church members who might be interested to attend.

All Diocesan Evangelical Fellowships work together with The Church of England Evangelical Council, a national group which represents evangelicals from across the whole Church of England. For this launch event we are being joined by Rev'd John Dunnett who is the National Director of Strategy and Operations at the Church of England Evangelical Council. With much going on in the Church of England, he will help us think about how we might move forward. It looks to be an encouraging evening of fellowship and it would be great to have many of us from Christ Church come along.

Truro Foodbank February Prayer

Please give thanks for all the customers who find their way to the Foodbank. We are feeding 50% more people than we did last year. Give thanks for all the generous donations and the fact that we have sufficient resources to enable us to respond to all who come. Please pray that all those in need will be referred and find help and that the giving will continue to meet the ever increasing demand.

Please give thanks that, although we are facing the most challenging physical, emotional and spiritual demands, our God is faithful in supplying our needs. Give thanks that staff and volunteer morale is high and that people are coming forward to offer help with goods and time. Please pray for the volunteer information evening planned for later this month (28th). Please pray too that referral agencies who have been invited will come and take the opportunity to learn more about our work.

Please give thanks for the commitment of staff and volunteers. Please pray that volunteers offering to take on more responsibility will feel supported and resourced as they move into their new roles.

Please give thanks that we have been able to extend our opening hours to meet the increased level of demand and to be more available to in-work customers. Please pray  that people’s income will be sufficient to enable them to afford housing, food and heating without needing to use a Foodbank. Pray for the report from October’s Challenge Poverty Week as it is distributed to every Councillor, MPs and Downing Street. Pray for the ongoing Living Wage discussions.

Please give thanks that we have been given verbal agreement that the lease of the store will be extended for a further year even though the current premises are unsuitable for our expanding operation. 

Please pray that suitable, affordable premises will be identified swiftly.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and family that we can join together in praying for:

1. Give thanks for our current teaching series on wisdom. As we explore biblical wisdom, pray that we might really learn what it is to live in that wisdom. Pray especially for our church family this week, as we think about what it means for us to be wise in the way we work.

2. Give thanks for St Clement church, part of our Trinity team. Give thanks for all those who are a part of the church family who meet at St Clement. Pray for them as they share their gifts and resources with others across Truro and the surrounding areas. Pray especially for their ministry towards those who are bereaved and suffering loss.

3. Do give thanks for the money raised at the Tearfund Quiz. Give thanks for the work of Truro Foodbank and all those involved from our church. Finally pray for our mission parters the Wallaces. Give thanks for our mission links across the world.
