Prince of Judgement

We all want the world to be sorted out; all wrongs to be righted and all injustice to be wiped away for good. But do we realise that the coming Messiah is the Prince of Judgement who will make this happen? As we continue our advent series we find out from Isaiah that the coming Prince is not just a baby in a manger, but a glorious judge who will speak and act with perfect justice. If we long for peace and justice, then we will want to meet the Lord who makes this possible only through His messianic reign.

So do join us this Sunday. There will be refreshments served both before and after the service and children’s groups will be running.

Suffering and Prayer

This is week three in the School of Prayer and now we come to one of the most challenging questions - what about prayer and suffering? At different moments in our lives we all experience suffering, sadness, moments of real pain. News of an illness, death of a loved one, relationship breakdown - on and on, we know we live in a world familiar with suffering. In the face of that suffering we sometimes cry out to God in prayer. Sometimes it seems to us that God answers our prayers, the situation changes, the person gets better, there is some kind of breakthrough. On other occasions things don’t change or even get even worse - it seems like God only sometimes answers our prayers. Of course the Bible reveals to us some of God’s answers to these questions. However it would be wrong to think that knowing those ‘answers’ will take away the pain. Knowing something of the mind of God is reassuring and strengthening, but in this world nothing can take the edge off the pain. The Bible is full of prayers cried out in anguish and pain. The things we explore in this week’s study will not take that pain away - but will help lay foundations to strengthen us in the midst of our pain.

Volunteers needed

On Christmas Day Dockyard will be hosting a Christmas Day Lunch for individuals and families who would otherwise be alone or unable to afford the costs of Christmas. They are looking for volunteers to join in with the festivities - cooking, serving, and playing games.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and church family that we can join together in praying for:

1. We thank you Lord for this season of Advent and we ask you to ready our hearts as He prepared all of history to receive the gift of His Son. We pray for focus and devotion during this time to cut away the distractions and make your life a place of warmth and faith.

2. Let us prayer for our Gospel Partners Compassion UK and the work they do around the world supporting communities. Let us pray with them for countries to find diplomatic solutions that would bring harmony between nations. We pray for wars and unrest to end and we give thanks for your promise that one day there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. Until that day, we pray for your continued grace and goodness to overflow in this world so that humans can live alongside one another respectfully, allowing for mutual flourishing.

3. Finally let us prayer for St Johns Church and for their minister Will Harwood. We prayer for them in this season of advent and Christmas for all the outreach opportunities they have to work with the community including local schools. Let us also pray as they begin their Homeless Service again called Jericho Road and for their newly formed house groups which are meeting each week.
