Don’t Be Afraid

Two weeks ago, before our Remembrance Sunday commemorations, we were amazed to see Jesus claim to give life even in the midst of death. This week, as we return to our series The King and His Kingdom, we are going to see even greater things – Jesus raising a young girl whom everyone thought was dead. 

It is a remarkable story that transforms a family, astonishes a community, and brings hope to the world.  

Might we dare to believe that Jesus can do this in our lives and in the lives of those we love? What difference would it make to our church if we were to see Jesus giving life among our family and friends? How can we experience the deep peace that only meeting Jesus can bring? 

Join us this Sunday for the penultimate section in our current series as we explore these questions and more.

There will be refreshments served before and after the service, a livestream will be broadcast, threre will be groups for children and young people and prayer ministry. After the service there will be a cake sale to raise money for the transportation costs for the Operation Christmas Child Shoe boxes (it costs £5 to send each box). For every Sunday during Advent, we will using a devotion book to shape our teaching each week. One True Gift is a short book by Tim Chester to guide readers through the days of Advent. Each day, it provides a verse from Philippians to read, a thought to reflect on, and a prayer we might like to pray.

If you would like to purchase one of these books, they can be ordered through the church office for £7 (saving postage costs).

Engage - This Week

This week we are looking at the last of the 4 priorities - the priority of life itself. In this section we are given four pictures of people who are facing or are surrounded by the reality of suffering and death.

We started looking at this section in our sermon last Sunday (the week before Remembrance Sunday) and we will finish looking at this section in our sermon next Sunday. These different incidents compare and contrast different responses people make in the middle of the reality of death. It is remarkable how people find themselves afraid, rather than trusting Jesus - or are afraid of death, rather than having a right fear or awe of Jesus. How does this final ‘priority’ impact how we think about engaging with the world around us? That is the question this week...

Fellowship Evening - next week

Next Wednesday our Engage activity is meeting as a church to pray togethe.

The evening will begin at 7pm to share in a hot meal together, with the rest of the evening starting at 7.30pm."

Like in September, the team who have organised our 24/7 prayer events have planned an evening of prayer to enable people to pray together in a variety of styles. Gathering together as God's people to bring our requests to the king of the universe is a wonderful privilege. There will be opportunity to engage in prayer without the need to pray aloud, and a range of topics, prompts and ideas to help us.

Christmas Choir - This Week

Rehearsals for the Christmas choir are starting this Thursday (14th November) at 7pm in church. If you enjoy singing and would like to be part of this group, please come along. No experience is needed. You do not need to be able to read music to be able to take part. 

Other rehearsal dates: 28th November and 5th, 12th December. You're welcome even if you cannot make all the rehearsals.

Christmas Carol Service is on Sunday 22nd December at 6.30pm.

Last Call for Shoe Boxes

This Saturday there will be a ‘Community Packing Party’ between 11-12.30pm in the Church, so if you would like to get involved do come along and pack a shoe box.

Sunday 17th November at 1pm will be the last day for dropping off any boxes you have made at home ready for us to send.

We will also be holding a cake sale after the service this Sunday to raise money for the transportation costs for the boxes (it costs £5 to send each box). We can only accept cash donations please.

Wreath Making - 30th November

There is still time to sign up for the popular Wreath Making evening, which is perfect to invite friends to, on Saturday 30th November.

It promises to be a relaxed and enjoyable event which includes a full wreath-making demonstration, time to make your own wreath, and a short interview with a Christian about what Christmas means to them. Mulled wine and nibbles will be served, and materials to make the wreaths will be provided.

Tickets are £18 each or two for £30. Numbers are limited, so do book early to secure places for you and your friends. Those attending should bring secateurs to work with. Click on the image above to book your place.

If you are able to offer any greenery do get in touch with Catharine Handford. We ideally would like branches cut no longer than 2 feet please. The greenery can be dropped off at Church on the Saturday morning of the event.

CAP & Lanterns Christmas Appeal

Job Opportunities

Many of you will be aware of some exciting opportunities in the Deanery for outreach into communities experiencing deprivation. Our churches already have a long running vision to play a part in this, and have had the opportunity to support some nationally funded Deanery roles since January 2023.

There is sufficient funding for two new roles to further establish this ministry with those not yet engaging with traditional expressions of church. The two roles are part time, one being youth focused and the other being an administrative and operations role. Please look at our vacancies page (by clicking the ‘Vacancy’ image above) and think/pray about who might be able to join the LICF team.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and church family that we can join in praying for:

1. Lord of the church, we know that you mourn the way in which churches have failed to live as you have called us. As we hear the news of failings within the Church of England, we pray for all those affected by the abuses inflicted on people. We ask for your continued comfort and keeping, that they might continue to trust in your unfailing love. Seeing your name dishonored by our falleness, and the way that sinful pride has silenced the voice of those who have been hurt, we pray for your renewing of the church. We thank you that the darkness cannot overcome the light, and we pray that all those in positions of trust across churches in this country might live a life worthy of the calling that they have received.

2. We give thanks for Mercy Rescue Trust. We pray for the team in Kitale as they work with many sick and abandoned babies. Thank you for the provision for hospital fees for some of their children, and we pray that this provision continues through their fund raising and sponsors.

3. Father God we lift Kenwyn Church for you this week. We praise you that they have many evangelistic events happening over Christmas that people can attend and hear God’s word spoken, and we pray that you would bear much gospel fruit.
