This Sunday - 2 Timothy 3

This week we are returning to our series Never Ashamed. We are looking at Paul’s letter to Timothy as he encourages Timothy to never be ashamed of the gospel, but to pass the gospel on to others. What does that look like in reality?

This Sunday we come to the heart of the challenge. Passing the gospel on will be hard. There will be those both within and outside the church who will make this hard. We are told there will be false teachers who lead others astray and often it will look like those false teachers are prospering. Join us this week, as we consider how we might stand firm in the truth and never be ashamed.

We are also very excited to have Jedidah visiting us from Kenya to talk about Mercy Rescue Trust (a charity we support). She will be bringing news and encouragement as we hear of all that God is doing.

There will be Sunday Club for all children as normal. Refreshments are being served before and after our Sunday morning service as usual. Prayer after the service will be available.

This Thursday - Prayer Meeting

This Thursday (27th October at 7:30pm) we are holding our next Christ Church prayer meeting. As a church family, we want to be those who depend on Jesus for everything we do. Prayer is at the heart of our life together. It is only as we pray that we believe Jesus will build His church. Christ Church Halloween Event

Every year it seems like Halloween is becoming bigger and bigger. Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and people are genuinely looking for an opportunity to have some fun and to party - to put aside the pressures of life.

Of course, as Christians, we want nothing to do with celebrating the powers of darkness, but instead want to celebrate the light of Jesus Christ. To help us do that, our church family is organising a special event in Archbishop Benson School on the 31st October at 4:30pm. Our Halloween Event will be a chance for us to celebrate together and point to the light of Jesus that shines in the darkness.

There will be party games, food for children, an amazing party disco and much more. We hope you can join us and we hope you will invite your friends as well.

Everything We Do is Funded By You

We are really grateful for the regular giving support of our church family, even as the cost of living rises and there are so many calls on our money at this time of year. Our planned regular giving has continued to decline over the past month. In fact, just in the last two months it has fallen by the equivalent of more than £8,000 a year. As you know, we’ve already frozen all new non-essential spending so as to prioritise looking after our staff, our clergy, heating and lighting our buildings and supporting vital ministries funded from our central pot, such as Christians Against Poverty.

Last month we said we’d keep you updated about our finances, so here’s the latest snapshot of our income and expenditure as at the end of September:

If you are in a position to help us, might you be able to increase your giving a little? We need our overall giving to rise by almost 15 per cent to get us back into credit - but every little really does help and we really do understand that times are tough. Also, if you’ve recently started to worship at Christ Church and regard it as ‘your’ church in Truro and haven’t got around to partnering with us financially, we’d love it if you could spare ten minutes and sign up to the easy-to-use Parish Giving Scheme.

New Facebook Page

As part of our desire to communicate better at Christ Church, we have a new Facebook page. We would love as many people as possible to go to it now and hit the follow button - this will both help keep you connected with what we are doing and also help others see as well.

Dockyard Evening - 11th November

Sam and Erica Payne from our church family at Christ Church are launching a new initiative called The Dockyard Collective - creating safe spaces for people to rebuild in tough times. They are hosting a evening on the 11th November to raise money for a small pilot project in Truro this autumn. The night will be a celebration of Cornwall's finest with a five course tasting menu, Cornish music, and a Cornish Christmas market. Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and family that we can join together in praying for:

1. Please pray for the outreach opportunities that come with Halloween, both at organised events and in engaging with neighbours.

2. Please pray for St John’s, Truro, as Will, Naomi and family settle in. There have been early encouragements at the licencing and on the first two Sundays to give thanks for. Please pray for them as they get to know people, build relationships and see what God is already doing at St John’s.

3. Please pray for the work of Barnabus Fund as they encourage prayer, advocacy and send financial support to projects which help Christians where they suffer discrimination, oppression and persecution as a consequence of their faith. Suffering Church Action and Awareness Week starts on the 30th October.
