Attitude changed

How much is too much? How far is too far? This Sunday we will consider the radical and distinctive calling of Jesus when it comes to our attitude towards others. Jesus calls us to be a neighbour to whoever we can and to love others as we love ourselves. This Sunday we will attempt to unpack both the force of Jesus’ challenge and some of the complexity in responding to it.  

We will also celebrate Holy Communion, prayer ministry will be available and groups for children and young people continue. Refreshments will be served before and after the service. If you are watching online Live stream goes live at 10.20am.

Small groups - This week

ENABLE is all about exploring the wonderful ‘means’ that God has given us as disciples to help us serve Him with the whole of our lives. One of the most amazing promises that Jesus makes to His disciples is that He will ask His heavenly father to send us the gift of the Holy Spirit. God Himself will then come and make His home in all who believe in Him.

Last week, we looked at the first work of this Holy Spirit, giving us new life. This week, we are going to be thinking about the second work of this Holy Spirit. The Spirit doesn’t just give us new life, He does it by enabling us to come to know Jesus for ourselves. The Holy Spirit is called the Sprit of Truth. That is because the Holy Spirit is just like Jesus and Jesus is the truth - “I am the way, the truth and the life” (Jn 14:6). The role of the Spirit of Truth is to show us Jesus the truth.

This Saturday

Compassion UK - Sponsor a child

After our visit from Mike Robins from Compassion UK last Sunday he has left us with information if you would like to sponsor a child. You can do this in several different ways either by entering the information above online or using the Child profiles which will be at the back of church for the next couple of week with a paper form to fill in.

New Member of the Team

We are excited to be welcoming Iain Brunt into the office this week, who is also a member of Kea congregation. As Vicki heads onto maternity leave soon, lots of her managerial jobs shall be delegated to PCC members as volunteers. Iain shall be working part time and taking over some of the admin tasks in the office to support Debs and the team whilst Vicki is on leave. We do hope you join us in welcoming Iain to the church staff team.

Music Ministry Evening - Next Tuesday

Next Tuesday we will be holding a music workshop for anyone who is currently serving in a worship group or is interested in joining. It will be led by Andy Fenton from Music Ministry and looks to be a informative and practical evening.

The evening begins at 7pm and refreshments will be served before and during the evening.

Please bring along your instruments, as part of the evening will be a practical session.

CAP centre turns 15!

This month we celebrate your CAP centre being 15 years old. Well Done Church and everyone who has ever served on our team for your prayers, encouragement and financial support. Thank you too to those involved in going to Bradford and encouraging the church to start a centre. God has done great and marvellous things.

Debt Free

We start the year with our first debt free client, when asked what it feels like to be debt free he said. "I couldn't have done it with you and the work of CAP. It's absolutely brilliant. It's like having a fresh start. It has really taken the strain off. I feel amazing!"

Salvation

We also celebrate another client X inviting Jesus into her life. At her meeting we prayed with her and gave her a bible. We lost touch for a while. However in a time of challenge she cried out and God revealed himself to her, she expressed this moment as pure joy, She said "God lifted me up out of despair, I know it was him and he comforted me. I started picking up the bible and it changed my life, I could shout it from the roof tops, I want me and the children to be baptised." This week we prayed together and celebrated all that God has done in her life. We will be meeting to do Word 1-2-1 bible study.

Praise God, such a wonderful start to the year!

Safeguarding Audit for Truro Diocese

As you may be aware INEQE Safeguarding Group have been commissioned to conduct Independent Safeguarding Audits of the Church of England to make sure dioceses and cathedrals are doing all they can to create environments where everyone feels safe, valued and respected. 

Truro Diocese is currently undergoing this process and invite us as a congregation to take part in the survey if we wish to give our opinion. 

As part of the audit process, we hope to engage with parishioners and members of the parish community through an online survey which will act as a mechanism through which individuals can comment on any matters relevant to the Audit’s focus. The survey is both anonymous (we are not seeking to identify you) and confidential (you will not be identified). We would therefore ask you to be open and honest with your responses.

The survey is now live and will close at 11.30 pm on Thursday 8th February 2024.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and church family that we can join together in praying for:

1. Please pray for all those in our congregations who are suffering from illness at the moment. Whether temporary or long term, pray that they would take comfort in a God who loves them and is in control.

2. Simon Fann from Truro Foodbank writes about how we can pray for them this month. We ask for prayers for people facing many complex issues  - the average Truro Foodbank customer needs help from Citizens Advice for 6 issues. Pray that procedures for people to get help are made easier not harder. Please pray that cross party work (like the Social Justice Commission) is heeded over party political point-scoring. Finally please pray for the work of Cornwall Independent Poverty Forum (of which Truro Foodbank is a member) as the Community Manifesto is being updated to be put to election candidates, and that election winners will take seriously the need to address wealth redistribution.

3. Please pray for St John’s Church and for Rev Will Harwood. We thank you for the Messy Church which happens each month and for the children and families who attend.
