Creation Care Sunday - Harvest all age

This Sunday we are taking a break from our current series as we celebrate Harvest Together. Our All Age service this week will be focused on justice and mercy. We will be thinking about both climate justice and food poverty.

As usual we will be collecting food gifts to give to Truro Foodbank to help some of those in acute need in the local area.

Refreshments will be served before and after the service and prayer ministry will be available.

A message from Wendy Vincent (Secretary to the Trustees of Truro Foodbank)

Are you looking to help people facing hardship in Truro and the surrounding area this harvest? Truro Foodbank urgently needs food donations so we can support local people with emergency food this winter. Unfortunately demand has increased but donations have fallen so we are having to buy in food.

At the moment items most needed include long-life milk, long-life fruit juice, fruit squash or cordial, tinned carrots and sweetcorn, tinned soup (chicken, leek & potato, minestrone etc), tinned pulses (chick peas, lentils, red kidney beans etc). We also need shampoo and laundry liquid/powder. We have plenty of baked beans, tinned potatoes, packets of rice.

This Week - ‘A word of warning’

God has given us many gifts to help us live as disciples of Jesus while we wait for His return. Over the last two sessions, we have been thinking about God’s great gift of the church - we have one another.

This week, we are looking at two more churches - two churches that face a very similar problem. Jesus’ word challenges how we think about Him and how we think about the church. We will see that Jesus cares much more about our life together than we might think. At the end of every one of these letters Jesus says, “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches”. Let us pray that we might have ears to hear Jesus’ words in the power of the Spirit.

“We had a great meeting with volunteers on Monday, sharing the vision for our community café which particularly welcomes families, the vulnerably housed and people on a low income. Please join us in prayer this week for a strong and dependable team, the logistics as we prepare to open, and courage for people who may be isolated or struggle with mental health challenges to come along.

We are still looking for team members to help serve lunch on Mondays 12-3 as well as people to make soup and cakes on a monthly basis. For an updated list of how to get involved and donate, please click the button below.”

This Saturday - Big Quiz Night

Please join us this Saturday at 7.30pm at St Kea Church for the Big Quiz night!

This year our Big Quiz will be live so we will be joining hundreds of churches across the UK all taking part in the ultimate quiz night. Please invite your friends and family and form a team. We recommend 4 - 6 members in a team, but we’re flexible.  It’s a good idea to mix up the age groups if you can, to ensure a good range of knowledge in each team.

Do bring you own drinks, glasses and nibbles. Tea, coffee, squash and cake will be available. (Please note we will not be serving pasties this year)

Please pay what you think it’s worth or what you can afford. Every pound we raise at our Big Quiz Night will empower people to lift themselves out of poverty and reach their God-given potential. Tearfund is a Christian charity that partners with churches in more than 50 of the world’s poorest countries. They tackle poverty through sustainable development, responding to disasters and challenging injustice. They believe an end to extreme poverty is possible. Tearfund is also a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Remembering Alison Hughes

Some of you may remember Bob and Alison Hughes who attended Kea some years ago and were involved with Open Doors at Playing Place. Bob has recently got in touch to inform us of the passing of his dear wife Alison on the 10th June.
He writes ‘We will be holding a service to celebrate her memory and our marriage at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 2.00 pm on Sunday 15th October should anyone who remembers us be interested in joining us. Kindest regards, Bob Hughes’

Join us on 18th October

We will be gathering to share fellowship, praise God, hear ministry updates and pray together on Wednesday 18th October. Come at 7pm to spend time with others, with food and refreshments. The meeting will start at 7.30pm.

Everything we do is funded by you

With finances being tight for everyone this year, we wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us and continues to support us through regular giving either in person or through the Parish Giving Scheme.

Your giving enables us to continue our vision of spreading the Gospel, from keeping on the lights to being able to outreach to others.

Your generous giving has enabled us to continue providing live streams and weekly recordings for our church services. From lighting, cameras, microphones, licenses, sound desk and various pieces of equipment your money enables us to provide this for our amazing volunteers who operate it. This has meant we are able to reach those who are unable or not ready to return to a church building, as well as reaching those who are finding a new church or unable to make it that week.

What a joy we are able to share the Gospel in this way, which your generous giving has provided. As we look ahead to 2024 finances are still very tight and not sustainable as a church. We value your prayers as we seek to find increased giving as a church family ready for the year ahead.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and church family that we can join together in praying for:

1. Let us pray for Truro Foodbank this Harvest time. We particularly pray for the partnership with Dockyard Cafe and the space that is available to do this in. To pray further for the work of Foodbank the prayer requests can be viewed here.

2. Father God we thank you for St Allen Church and we pray as they work together with St Clement Church.

3. Finally, Let us pray the same prayer Paul prayed to the Ephesians; Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
