Tonight 7:30pm - Prayer Meeting

At Christ Church we want everything we do to be underpinned with prayer. Our God is a very generous God who wants us to pray and longs to answer our prayers. The life of our church will only be fruitful as we rely on him in our prayers.

This Thursday is our monthly prayer meeting as we start the new year. Everyone is welcome to join us as we pray. These evenings are really encouraging. Even if you find praying with others hard, it is great to be together and be encouraged by the prayers of others. This event is being held at Alan and Jean’s home. Church Members can find details on ChurchSuite. Refreshments are served beforehand. Thursday 19th January at 7:30pm.

Note: There are no EQUIP small groups the week of the prayer meeting as we want to encourage everyone to attend.

This Sunday New Series - Wisdom for Living

This Sunday, we start a new series at Christ Church. We are turning to the Old Testament book of Proverbs, which we will look at for the next few weeks. This week we look at the opening chapter; we will start by thinking about Wisdom's Nature. We are going to see both how attractive and how essential Godly wisdom is.

Proverbs is one of three main wisdom books in the Old Testament and understanding how it relates to the other two can be helpful. Why not click on the video link below, by The Bible Project, to start to see how it fits in?

This week, our new Sunday Club series also continues as we think about Jesus the King and His Kingdom. This Sunday, they are going to be thinking about how the Kingdom of God is always growing. With songs, crafts and games - it is going to be great. There is also a crèche available for younger church members.

There will be refreshments before and after the service, so do catch up with folk as well as get to know others more. Prayer is always available after the service, do ask other church members or speak to the service leader. People are always available who would love to pray with you.

Next Thursday 26th January - EQUIP Central

Next week there are no EQUIP small groups as EQUIP comes together to launch the new term at EQUIP Central. Thursday 26th January at 7:30pm. This evening is hosted at Starbucks in Truro. This meeting is for everyone in the church family, even if you have not been involved in EQUIP so far.

During this evening, Marc (our leader at Christ Church) will be recasting the over-all vision for EQUIP. He will also be drawing together some of the strands from the first two EQUIP series and trying to help us see the main lessons. There will be time for personal reflection and a chance for us each to identify the main things that God has been doing in us. There will be also be time for asking questions and talking together, the evening will end as we launch section three of EQUIP - What is the church?

It is going to be a great evening - come expecting to have a wonderful time as God works amongst us. Free parking is available in the city centre car parks.

New Administrator

In order to spend more time with her family, Sue Sharp has decided to step down from her role as Church Administrator in our church office. This means we are looking for someone to come and join our team.

We Give Thanks For… Enabling St John’s

The heart of our mission is at St Kea is seeing God transform lives. We do this through our direct ministries and also by working in partnership with others. For many years, we have been partnering with local churches in ministries like Truro Foodbank and in international ministries such as Tearfund and Compassion.

For many years, some of us have wondered if there might be a way to form a partnership with St John’s Church in Truro and see the ministry there grow. Conversations were had in the days of Charlie Peer (our previous vicar) and more recently under Marc Baker (our current church leader). 

More recently, an opportunity arose for us to make a joint appointment between St Kea and St John’s to a new ministry role. This new minister was to have responsibility for turning around the ministry of the church at St John’s and seeing growth in the congregation, especially amongst children and families. They would also have the role of leading that congregation in serving their local community. The new minister was to be a member of the Staff Team at St Kea and would also give 2/5th of their time to wider gospel ministry across our new Trinity Benefice, including at St Kea. 

To pump-prime this new minister post, our PCC decided to fund 2/5ths of the appointment (equal to the proportion of the minister’s time given to wider work in our benefice) for the first three years. The goal is that by the end of the three year period we will have grown the ministry at St John’s to be self-funded into the future. The PCC felt this would be a great benefit to the Kingdom, make a lasting difference and it would be a way in which we could be generous to another church.

We were so delighted when, through competitive interview, our previous curate Will Harwood was appointed to this role. In October, Will and his wife Naomi (with their young family) started at St John’s. We are so very excited about the things that have already happened and all that God has in store for the Kingdom over the next few years. It is a real privilege to be able to partner together in this work. It involves sacrificial generosity by us at St Kea and we believe God will honour our generous giving in growing. Thank you to every one of our church members who has made this possible. The people at St John’s are so very grateful.

Will Harwood writes: Since arriving at St John’s in October Naomi and I have been grateful and pleasantly surprised at how open the congregation are to change for the sake of growth. Though the service on a Sunday morning is still quite traditional and ritual-heavy, they have welcomed new members and are very warm towards the children’s ’spot’ which happens every week, as well Bible-focused preaching. They have also gone out of their way to clear a room and make it suitable for a weekly Sunday club, which began last week (with six children). Church members are also volunteering and being safely recruited as we seek to support this work. The monthly Messy Church has also begun and church members are really supportive and serving in practical ways to make it happen.

Most exciting of all was the opportunity we had over Christmas to share the good news with over a thousand people in a combination of Carol services, Christingles, school visits and Christmas services. St John’s is relatively unknown, but it is a superb space that seats around six hundred, so we are taking every opportunity to make good connections with the local community to use the space. The support of St Kea has allowed me to take the lead confidently at St John’s and begin to realise the considerable potential of the congregation and building. CAP - Even More Good News

As you know, our Christians Against Poverty work is all about seeing people come out of debt. This week we are celebrating because another one of our clients became debt free in January. She has stuck with CAP although life has been challenging. When asking her how she feels she said "Free at last, the pressure is off and it feels good."

We also just wanted to share the lovely encouragement from the end of last year. After our Christians Against Poverty Christmas event, one of our guests came back to Lanterns the following week and decided to start following Jesus. They have continued to attend over the last couple of weeks, please pray for him as he does the Alpha Course and takes his first steps.

More Answered Prayers… Some of our clients have been living in desperate housing situations, but praise God we are pleased to share that 2 families and one individual have now been housed.

Thank you for standing with us, giving and praying to support the work of CAP. It is wonderful to be able to praise God together!

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and family that we can join together in praying for:

1. Pray for our work together as churches across the whole of Truro. Give thanks for our partnership with many other gospel believing churches in our city. Pray that we will be blessed as we work together, supporting each other so that the Gospel can be heard.

2. Give thanks for our church family at Christ Church and praye for Marc and his family as he our leads our congregation. Especially pray for his wife Sheryl who has been unwell recently.

3. Please pray for the work of Tearfund. Pray for the Quiz being held at St Kea on the 28th January, that it will be well attended, fun and will help inform about the work of Tearfund.
