This Sunday

After introducing our theme for the year from Ephesians ch 3. This Sunday we dive into working our way through the central three chapters in Ephesians. We are going to see that if we are in Jesus, we have MORE than we could ever imagine.

This week the journey begins as we think about all that Jesus gives us in rescuing us. What difference does it make to know that we are deeply loved? What impact does it have if we know we have been given life? What are the eternal consequences of God’s kindness to us?

Garden party - Thank you

Thank you to those of you who came along to last Sunday’s Vicarage garden party. The weather was amazing, the food was delicious and the entertainment sounded wonderful. A huge thanks to everyone who helped make the day happen, particularly the gardening team, Ben and Sian Goddard on set up, and Sue, Sian and Neil for all the organisation of catering. Without volunteers these events could not happen so we really appreciate all you have done.

This Thursday - 7th September

Every member of Kea and Christ Church is invited to the launch of the new small group series for this year called Enable. The evening will start at Kea Church at 7.30pm with refreshments served from 7pm. If you are not currently in a small groups or would like to know more, please do come along as well.

God wants to do more than we might possibly think of asking him, more than we might even imagine. This academic year He longs that Christ might dwell in us more fully and transform us more completely. If we were to allow this to happen it would change very much about our lives - from the day to day practical aspects of life, to our relationships with others, our life together, our fears and our concerns, our hope and our joy - they would all be transformed. God is longing to bring about this change starting now, the key question is how can this possibly happen? Seeing this change in our lives is what ENABLE is all about.

Tomorrow we will start to introduce the journey ahead - we will see what this change actually looks like in practice and we will start to see how this change can be enabled in us. During the evening Marc (Oversight Minister for Trinity Church) will be introducing the series, showing us the steps we are going to take as well as answering questions. The evening will finish before 9pm. We would love you to come and join us as we begin this journey as a church together.

Community event

Kea Parish Council is running a free event this coming Saturday in the Kea Community Centre to coincide with the last night of the BBC Proms. They suggest bringing a picnic and a bottle and they will provide the flags. The event starts at 7pm.

Ephesians evening

To give an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the letter to the Ephesians and to get an overview of the whole letter as we embark on studying it, Iain Brunt is hosting an evening at Old Kea on the 14th September where we will listen to Ephesians from start to finish a couple of times and have a chance to reflect together on what we notice about hearing it all in one sitting. Printouts of the letter will be provided to help us journal and annotate. The previous event like this, in the book of Acts, was a lovely relaxed evening of fellowship and sharing food. Trinity Evening - 20th September

Once a term all the Trinity Church congregations meet together for an evening of updates, stories of encouragement from each congregation, and hymns and prayers for each congregation. This Trinity evening will be held at Kea Church so do join us for refreshments from 7pm, with our evening together starting at 7.30pm. We look forward to seeing you then.

Calling all musicians and singers

Whether you are serving in our existing music teams or not, you are invited to an informal evening of playing/singing through a few songs together on Thursday 21st September from 7.30pm at St Kea (All Hallows).

Open the Book

As the schools go back the Open the Book team are preparing to go back into Kea School to present assemblies based on Bible stories. Although Kea is not a church school we are always warmly welcomed by both staff and children. At the moment we are a small team but would love to have some more people to join us. We go in every other Tuesday during term time, meeting at 2.30 to prepare and pray and are finished by 3.15. If you think that this might be something you would enjoy please do get in contact with Janet or Peter White, John Glinn, Mary Reynolds or Monica Thomas. If you would prefer, do come to come to watch an assembly without any commitment.

Women’s Breakfast

The next Women’s Breakfast will be held at Kea Church on Saturday 23rd September, 8.30-10am. It is a wonderful opportunity to gather with other women from across our congregations and enjoy a delicious breakfast as well as hear more about the different women who followed Jesus.

All dietary needs can be catered for, so please do sign up below.

Weekly Prayer Points

Each week there will be a few things for our church life and church family that we can join together in praying for:

1. This week we thank God for our friends at Christ Church and pray for them as they think about the new theme for the year - MORE.

2. This week let us pray for the work of TearFund. They are currently highlighting the drought induced food shortages in Ethiopia. Please pray for provision of nourishing food and clean water for those in need. For healing for those who are suffering from malnutrition and hunger. Pray that they will feel God’s love and comfort surrounding them and that there will be no long-term side effects or medical conditions due to hunger.

3. Finally, let us pray for our local community and for all people in their daily life and work. We pray for the young and the elderly, for families, and all who are alone. We give thanks for the gift of God’s word, and the fellowship of his people.
